[Current Music |Sweet, sweet Creatures 1 atmosphere]

So in response to the post I made on March 12th, I've been looking around all the more for other COBs-- the deathcap mushroom remover for C2, for example-- and coming up with zip. When I go back to America, I guess I'm going to have to go through a lot of back-up CDs to find everything I've ever downloaded for C1 and C2. XD Does anyone remember that one huge webpage with almost every COB created up for download? (Or did they just link to their respective sites? I've forgotten now.) Ahh... too bad they went down years ago.

Also in response to that post, I know it's not legal, but I'm sure very few people own or can play the ORIGINAL copy of the Creatures game anymore, anyway-- especially if they're running on Vista or 7, so I hope it's okay to talk about the cracking thing here?

With a little suggestion from my boyfriend, I've figured out how to "crack" C1 without downloading or installing anything extra. You know how the Wiki says to open Regedit and change the path to C:\\? Well, that didn't work for me, so through a quick trial-and-error process, I figured out what file in the Intro folder the game looks for (INTRO2.SMK) and replaced it with an empty TXT file with the same name and extension in a folder on the hard drive, then changed the path to where that file is located. Shazzam! I've been play-testing for over an hour now with no problems at all. :D I'm glad we're nerds.

Just A Thought, A Fun Question [Mar. 21st, 2010|11:08 pm]

I was going to post this on Albia2000's forum, but... err... it's kinda dead, it seems. I'll probably forget to look at it again, anyway.

I was just wondering, since I don't think anything official's been said about it (and because my boyfriend asked me)... How big do you think Norns are compared to humans?

Going by Creatures 2 graphics (as I seem to have lost my copy of C3 and don't feel like digging up the C1 CD for this), if you want to imagine the Hand as the hand of a typical 6-foot-tall human, I suppose the Blueberry doll could be said to be the size of a baby C1 Norn. I suspect that an adult C2 Norn's head would be about the size of a honeydew melon (if I have my melons right), probably bringing the rest of the body to being around 2ft tall.

I was just wondering, however, what you guys thought, or if you thought of it at all. :) I've seen people depict adult Norns to be the size of hamsters, and some even human sized.

That said, as a side-thought, how tall do you think the Shee are compared to humans?

Exodus on my Mac? [Mar. 16th, 2010|10:57 am]
The Creatures Community

Someone asked a question about breeding games in a gaming community I belong to and I thought Creatures! That kinda took me back. I haven't played it since high school probably. Anyway, thinking about it and clicking around the Creatures Wiki got me all nostalgic and I'd like to play with Norns again. Sims (though I love them) just aren't the same.

I've got a PC running Vista, but I would rather put Creatures on my Mac, which is running Snow Leopard. I'm a new Mac owner so I don't know how easy it is to run games built for an earlier OS. Also, I would never have kept playing C3 if it hadn't been for all the third party downloads that existed. How much of that stuff is still around? Because I'd definitely need...was it called The Med Room? Something like that. And probably a nursery though I think there were several of those. Also, all the third party breeds. What kind of issues would I have with that stuff on a Mac?

As far as I can tell looking through Google, all the stuff that I thought was dead was still active as of '08. How much of that is still true? Is it even worth it to try and get back into the game now? It's only $20 on amazon, so I'm willing to give it a try if there's a reasonable chance to get it to run. Opinions?

I was going to post this in my normal LJ, then I remembered, OH YEAH, I'm part of the Creatures LJ community. :P

Okay so like, nothing relating to Creatures seems to exists on the Internet anymore. :|

NO ONE HAPPENS TO HAVE the Ettin voices for C2, do they? Or the Ettin Family sprites by Don for C2? I've looked everywhere and I come to dead ends. So many websites have simply mysteriously disappeared.

I used to have massive folders full of C1 and C2 COBs and programs and extras... I wonder what happened to those. :C

Also, although I DO own Creatures 1, I'm very lazy and don't like having to dig through CDs to play it, but the methods of no-CD cracking listed on the Creatures Wiki have not worked. There was something to do with replacing an .exe file, and that did work, but now I can't seem t find it at all-- only stuff for The Albian Years, which, while I have bought that as well... it is even buggier than the original games, haha. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? If it's too touchy of a subject (as I realize the legality of cracking games), feel free to ignore it. I CAN play the game with the CD, it'd just be more convenient for me to not have to, y'know? (I'm running Windows XP, by the way.)

Looking for a C2 Agent [Feb. 22nd, 2010|05:32 pm]

[Current Mood |hopefulhopeful]

I just got back into playing Creatures and I've managed to recompile my list of essential COBs...except for one.

Object B'Gone. It looks like it should be there but is unavailable for download.

It's making me nuts because I'm having problems with various critters and unremovable plants multiplying too much...so I keep getting a warning about the game having reached the maximum number of active scripts. :\ Anyone have that COB on hand, or have a similar one?

Creatures 1/2 for Vista!? [Nov. 21st, 2009|05:48 am]
The Creatures Community

imaginarydusk
So if you guys aren't aware of it already, the entire creatures series divided into Creatures Exodus, Albian Years, and Creatures Village is now available as digital download for $9.99 a game on gog.com.

The big fuss? gog.com is known for making old games playable on current systems, which means, in the case of Albian Years, there finally exists a version of C1/C2 that runs easily on Vista, no complex modifications or virtual machines needed. I'll also note that while the original version of Albian Years did not work on my XP machine, (supposedly due to an incompatible video card, I'm told), the gog version runs flawlessly.

If you've been having problems running Creatures 1 or 2 on your newer machine, seriously consider giving this a shot. People have reported success running on Vista (I actually don't know anyone it hasn't worked for yet), so if you can afford to risk $10, prepare for a huge incoming nostalgia trip!

Do pass this news on to as many old Creatures fans as you can! And because I feel the need to plug my people, the Creatures Community is still very much alive at forums like Creaturetopia and Creaturescaves if you want to come discuss your rediscovered nornish infatuation with the rest of us :)

New C1 World [May. 22nd, 2009|01:16 pm]

So I'm making a complete replacement world for Creatures 1. I know, ten years late, right?

It's still in the very, very beginning stages (I'm backing the background and mapping the rooms). But if anyone is interested in any newfangled COBs they'd like to see, or ideas they'd like to suggest, let me know.

I'll be posting babble updates on my LJ, but I'll post here once I'm getting near completion.

running DS with Vista? [Apr. 7th, 2009|04:10 pm]

how badly does it suck? i haven't played ANY Creatures games in probably  3 years or more, but every so often i go, awww, i miss playing with norns...i have only JUST started looking for information out there on it, like, gameware's website wasn't much help, altho it appears that there are newer versions of all the games that SHOULD be compatible up until Vista. :P which would be sweet if i could get my hands on those, lol, C1 is like my first love.

but i'm rambling. my computer runs on Vista. i was thinking about just making a new account on the computer that i could use solely for the purpose of playing DS, if i can determine whether it's worth it or not.  any and all input is very appreciated, and if anyone could point me towards some awesome creatures forums/message boards, that'd be great too. :D
